Flash flood watch in effect for Waldo burn scar

A fast moving storm swept through El Paso County Saturday night, dropping quarter-sized hail on motorists and igniting more panic in Manitou Springs.

Around 8:30 p.m. heavy rainfall blanketed the Waldo Canyon scar, blanketing US 24 is a layer of water. Vehicles were hydroplaning as they sped up Ute Pass.

The black wave returned to Fountain Creek in Manitou, sending a steady river of fire debris through the city.

Members of the Manitou Fire and Police departments gathered outside their station, preparing for potential flash floods.

The National Weather Service in Pueblo issued a flash flood advisory for El Paso County around 8 p.m., but waters were not causing any damage as of press time.
