Planning and quick thinking on the part of homeowners in Black Forest kept a stand-alone garage fire contained Saturday.
The fire, at 12890 Holmes Rd., was reported at 9:48 a.m., almost immediately after it started, said fire department spokeswoman Kathy Russell. The garage was destroyed along with a car, motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle. But the flames were extinguished in about 30 minutes. The blaze did not spread to any houses or the forest.
The family had raked the area to clear pine needles and other flammable materials and had done some tree-trimming. The work kept the blaze from spreading, Russell said.
It also helped that the fire department was in the middle of an open house, and many firefighters from the surrounding community responded to assist, Russell said. At least 25 firefighters battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire remained still under investigation.
