Fire marshal lifts Colorado Springs fire restrictions

Recent rains and higher moisture levels are being credited for the recent lifting of fire restrictions in Colorado Springs, effective Tuesday.

Sunny Smaldino, Colorado Springs Fire Department spokeswoman, said wildfire danger within city limits has significantly decreased. Continued high humidity and constant precipitation in the past weeks have made fuels less vulnerable to ignition.

"We have had an extremely active fire season this year, but weather conditions are improving and restrictions can now be lifted," Fire Marshal Brett Lacey said.

Colorado Springs residents should still reduce any wildfire risk practicing mitigation around their homes and property, taking advantage of the break in the hot weather, Smaldino said.

Wildfire hazard ratings for individual addresses are available at http://csfd.springsgov.com and the public can call the fire department for a free onsite consultation at 385-7342.
