Colorado Springs fire crews battled a blaze that may have started from a lit cigarette at the Aviator Apartments Wednesday, according to the fire department.

The fire was initially reported about 5 a.m. from the apartment complex on 1670 N. Murray Blvd., south of Constitution Avenue.

The apartment building was evacuated and there were no injuries, but there was no information on how many residents were displaced.

A planter on a balcony may have caught fire from a burning cigarette, the fire department said. Investigators have not named the official cause of the blaze.
