Fatal crash in south Colorado Springs under investigation, roads now open

One man died in a single-vehicle wreck Monday on the 1200 block of E. Cheyenne Road , near Highway 115 in south Colorado Springs.

The crash was reported about 6:30 a.m. Monday, when a vehicle traveling westbound on E. Cheyenne Road failed to make a left turn and drove off the road, landing in a drainage ditch and hitting a tree, Lt. Catherine Buckley said.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Extreme speed was considered to be a factor in the crash, Buckley said.

The westbound lanes of E. Cheyenne Road were blocked between South Sheridan and South Hancock avenues until 12 p.m. for investigators and emergency vehicles, police said.
