Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Jermaine Frye would be honored at the 31st Annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. Frye, who died in October, was a paramedic-firefighter with the Cimarron Hills Fire Department but was not a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters. The annual memorial event only recognizes fallen firefighters who were members of the union.

International Association of Fire Fighters' 31st annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial will honor 196 firefighters this year in Colorado Springs.

The event, which brings in 5,000 firefighters and family members from the U.S. and Canada, celebrates fire and emergency personnel who died in the line of duty or from diseases acquired on the job in the last year. All of those honored were members of the fire association.

The event will begin with the "The Ride of Honor" procession from University Village to Memorial Park. The procession will be followed by a ceremony at the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, where the names of those honored will be engraved on the IAFF's statue in the park.

The procession will begin at 10 a.m. at University Village, 5246 N. Nevada Ave., and end at Memorial Park. The public is invited to line the sidewalks along the procession route in show of their support. Participation in the procession is not open to the public. Fire departments attending the memorial are encouraged to bring fire apparatus and equipment and firefighter motorcyclists to take part in the procession.
