Gazette Premium Content Falcon names co-head coaches to finally fill football vacancy

The big news coming from Falcon School District 49 on Wednesday wasn't that it hired a football coach to finally lead Falcon. Instead, the district chose two men to share responsibilities as co-head coaches for the upcoming season.

Former Falcon Middle School coaches Terry Poirier and Brian Green recently agreed to co-coach the Falcons, finally ending a four-month-long vacancy that included its share of drama and intrigue.

Now, the team can start to move forward, at last.

"We have someone in place," district athletic director Jay Hahn said, "and we have quality people to take over. That'll settle a lot of confusion and apprehension."

The announcement was made via email, stating that Poirier and Green each had signed contracts and will begin coaching duties immediately. The pair will formally meet returning letter-winners and parents at 7 p.m. Thursday at Falcon High School, or south at Vista Ridge should the Black Forest fire lurk too close to the Falcon campus.

Most recently, Poirier coached the Falcon Middle School eighth-grade boys' basketball team. Green coached the Peyton boys' basketball team to the 2A state tournament in March, then resigned his post after four seasons.

"Brian and Terry worked as partners in coaching in middle school, and they work really well together," Hahn said. "This is something they wanted to do. They were extremely successful at the middle-school level, and they wanted to continue that same dynamic and recipe for success moving forward at Falcon High School. It's a great situation since they've worked with most of these kids before."
