The Broadmoor will host its third annual Women's Weekend of Wellness next month.
The event, co-sponsored by the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, aims to help participants find and map a course to achieve an ideal wellness outcome, at any age. The long weekend begins with a reception May 1 and includes energizing activities, health evaluations and presentations by nationally renowned speakers and experts, many of whom are on staff either at The Broadmoor or the Anschutz center.
"We have people in their 20s through their 70s who attend, so we wanted to make sure that all the speakers speak to that, about taking care of yourself at any age and how our needs and demands change in our different decades," said Bev Stewart, fitness supervisor at the Colorado Springs resort. "We have mothers and daughters coming together and friends celebrating 50th birthdays and 30th birthdays, so we want to address how needs change for us over the years and how we can take care of ourselves no matter what state of life we're in."
Health experts will conduct personalized wellness evaluations to let guests know how they're performing in six controllable dimensions: physical fitness, metabolic fitness, nutrition, sleep, stress, and quality and satisfaction of life.
In addition to workshops and lectures, guests can choose from a range of daily activities, including guided hikes, yoga or pilates, and aquatic workouts.
A closing address by renowned clinical psychologist Janet Lapp will discuss the nexus among physical and emotional wellbeing, improvement and achievement and offer insights on creating lasting positive life changes. Lapp is an internationally known motivational speaker and best-selling author, as well as creator and host of the award-winning CBS series "Keep Well."
Since opening in April 2012, the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center on the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus has offered state-of-the-art research, education and wellness services with a mission to transform the lives of individuals and communities through science-based strategies.
