Exhibit will feature Bible history, Dead Sea Scrolls

An exhibit on Bible history featuring the world’s second-largest private collection of Dead Sea Scrolls and an undocumented copy of Wycliffe’s New Testament written in Middle English will open May 16 in Colorado Springs.

“Passages: The Bible Experience,” sponsored by The Green Collection and Hobby Lobby president Steve Green, will take over a 40,000-square-foot space inside a former Hobby Lobby at 3979 Palmer Park Blvd.

Featuring more than 450 items from the Jewish, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox faith traditions, the nonsectarian, living-history exhibit chronicles the narrative story behind the Bible — the most-debated, banned, best-selling book of all time — from ancient to modern times.

Artifacts belong to The Green Collection, the world’s largest private collection of rare biblical texts and artifacts, established by the founders of the national arts-and-crafts retail chain. They include the world’s largest private collection of Jewish scrolls, the earliest known text from the book of Matthew, cuneiform tablets, illuminated manuscripts and the early writings of Christian reformist Martin Luther. Previous stops for the interactive, traveling exhibit include Oklahoma City, Atlanta and the Vatican.

“Our new collection is of great historical and biblical significance and demonstrates the Bible’s impact on every facet of life throughout the ages — including science, the arts, government, literature and languages,” Green said.

“Passages” runs through January 2014. For more information and to buy tickets, visit www.explorepassages.com or call 888-297-8011.
