Gazette Premium Content Ex-players sue NCAA in Tennessee over concussions

Associated Press Updated: November 20, 2013 at 3:37 pm

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Two former college football players have filed a federal lawsuit in Tennessee alleging the NCAA did not inform players about the risks of concussions.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court also says the NCAA failed to establish protocols to prevent or treat brain injuries or medically monitor former players. Former Saginaw Valley State linebacker John Walton and former Memphis State offensive lineman William Clark Stevenson are named as plaintiffs.

The suit seeks medical monitoring and testing for former players who are suffering from head injuries related to their playing days. The suit seeks class-action status, but is limited to players who did not play in the NFL.

Similar suits have been filed elsewhere around the country.
