WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — A celebration of the 407th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement, is set for May 10.
Jamestown Day will feature a variety of entertainment and educational programs at two local attractions. Historic Jamestown is the site of the original 1607 settlement jointly operated by the National Park Service and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Jamestown Settlement is a living history museum of 17th-century Virginia administered by the state's Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.
Visitors to Jamestown Settlement will be able to watch the Discovery, a replica of one of the three ships that brought colonists to Virginia in 1607, set sail in the James River.
Historic Jamestowne will offer tours, demonstrations and an up-close look at archaeological excavations of the 1607 James Fort.
