If, as you were in line to park at The Broadmoor World Arena Thursday night for Elton John's performance, you thought to yourself, "This is the busiest I've ever seen it" - you were right.

John's sold-out performance helped the soon-to-be 20-year-old venue break a number of historic records. These included selling out within 22 minutes, being the highest grossing event for a single performance (no sum was available at press time), and generating the highest number of tickets sold for a single event, according to a news release from the World Arena.

More than 9,000 people attended John's concert - more people than there are permanent chairs in the venue's inventory, according to the release. The venue has 7,343 fixed seats and can add 2,000 seats on the floor, according to its website.

"The Arena would like to thank Colorado Springs for the overwhelming success of the show," announced Teresa Drew, director of marketing for the World Arena, in the release. "It is a great honor to have the support of the community to bring top-name artists such as Elton John to perform in Colorado Springs."

Concert-goers called the two-and-a-half-hour show, during which John sang 23 songs, "absolutely fabulous" and "fantastic," describing John as "a powerhouse from beginning to end" on the Gazette's Facebook page.

The Broadmoor World Arena credited partners AEG and Goldenvoice for bringing John as part of his "Wonderful Crazy Night" tour to Colorado Springs. The rock icon did not include a tour stop in Denver on his current tour.

The multipurpose arena hosted the Harlem Globetrotters Friday and on Sunday will host the 22nd annual Pikes Peak Food & Wine Expo.
