High winds swirled around the Colorado Springs area Friday morning, but the gusts are expected to taper off by the afternoon according to the National Weather Service.

The winds reached close to 40 mph early Friday as forecasters predicted mostly sunny skies and a high of 39 for the city.

A slight warming trend is expected for the weekend with sun predicted and highs in the mid 50s for Saturday and near 50 on Sunday. Winds are expected to remain calm for Saturday with strong gusts of about 35 mph returning on Sunday.
