DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Durango businessman Jaime McMillan has ended his dark horse bid for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination.

McMillan announced his withdrawal from the race Friday.

The Durango Herald reports that McMillan only recently joined the Republican Party. He ran for the state Legislature and U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 as an unaffiliated candidate. He had been a registered Democrat in the past.

McMillan had positioned himself as a progressive Republican during his Senate bid.
