A teenage girl was killed in a fatal crash that shut down westbound lanes of Garden of the Gods Road near Nevada Avenue for several hours Thursday evening, Colorado Springs police said.

Police said four teenagers were in a 1993 brown Honda Accord traveling east on Garden of the Gods Road when the driver hit a curb and lost control of the car.

The car traveled across three lanes of traffic, jumped the median and entered oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road, police side. A westbound silver Chrysler Pacifica collided with the passenger side of the Honda, police said.

The Honda’s front passenger died on scene. The teenage driver was cited for careless driving.

The road was closed from Interstate 25 to Nevada Avenue around 4 p.m., police said. The road reopened around 8 p.m.

Police have not released the names of the drivers or the victims.
