A man fled the scene of a rollover crash in northeast Colorado Springs Sunday night abandoning his vehicle and the injured passenger trapped inside, said police.

Kolton Hawkins, 26, and an unnamed passenger were heading west on Dublin Boulevard near Bridle Pass Drive at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday when Hawkins lost control of his Acura sedan trying to speed through a construction zone, police said.

Hawkins - suffering minor injuries - abandoned the injured passenger and was later found by police in the 4500 block of Winewood Village Drive, police said.

The seriously injured passenger was taken to a local hospital, police said.

Hawkins was booked into El Paso County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault, police said.

The Dublin Boulevard and Bridle Pass Drive intersection was closed from around 11:30 p.m. until 2:25 a.m. Monday.
