A homeowner's dog was shot when a man broke into a downtown residence Thursday and demanded money.
The dog was taken to an animal emergency clinic, Colorado Springs police said. Its condition was not known Friday.
The homeowner was not harmed.

When confronted by the owner's two dogs, the burglar shot one of them before being handed money and running away, police said.
The culprit was not found.
