A dog was killed and a resident burned Tuesday evening in a Colorado Springs house fire, the Fire Department reported.

Two residents were at home when the fire was sparked, and one sustained minor burns to his hand, the Fire Department tweeted. Firefighters found an unconscious dog in the house. The dog wasn't breathing, and firefighters attempted CPR but couldn't resuscitate it.

The house at 3119 Virginia Ave. was a rental, with renters in the main level and basement, the tweets say. The blaze was reported about 5 p.m., Gazette news partner KKTV reported.

Fire investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze.
