KEY WEST, Fla. — U.S. endurance swimmer Diana Nyad's representatives say she's less than 10 miles from Florida in her latest attempt to swim there from Cuba.
In an online update posted at 5 a.m. Monday, her team said she has swum 44 hours so far and is expected to reach land Monday afternoon. Overall, the swim is expected to be more than 100 miles if she's able to complete it.
Nyad is trying to become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage.
Nyad, who recently turned 64, tried three times in 2011 and 2012. Her last attempt was cut short amid boat trouble, storms, unfavorable currents and box jellyfish stings that left her face puffy and swollen.
She says this will be her final try.
