DENVER — Police say six protesters have been arrested during a ruckus at a small demonstration in downtown Denver.

Sgt. Steve Warneke says protesters were pepper-sprayed as they tried to stop police efforts to make arrests Saturday evening.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/1fX9l0T ) that the protest occurred on a crowded 16th Street Mall as tourists and others walked downtown, some alarmed by seeing a dozen officers in riot gear.

The paper reports that the small group of about two dozen people indicated they were protesting against organized government and police. The group, called Anonymous, protests on the fifth day of each month.

No property damage was reported. The arrests were on minor charges, including blocking the street and interfering with police.
