Gazette Premium Content GOP says legal pot won't affect 2016 decision

Associated Press Updated: June 10, 2014 at 9:32 pm

DENVER (AP) — Legal marijuana in Denver won't make it problematic for Republicans to hold their 2016 convention in the city.

That's according to GOP officials who talked to reporters Tuesday. It was the second of three days touring Denver as a potential site for the 2016 Republican convention.

Denver is competing against Dallas, Cleveland and Kansas City, Missouri.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus says that logistics are more important than local marijuana laws. He said he's "not a big fan" of legal marijuana but that party officials aren't considering it in their decision.

The committee will announce where it's holding the convention in August.
