FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — The National Park Service says it will expand winter recreation opportunities in Denali National Park and Preserve by plowing nine more miles of park road.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://bit.ly/1b0BHsH) reports the additional plowing will give visitors access to the first 12 miles of the only road leading into the 6 million-acre park.
Plowed road will reach the Mountain Vista Rest Area.
Plowing will be tried for a test period of three to five years.
Park spokeswoman Kris Fister says there's no specific date to begin plowing next winter and it will depend on weather.
She says traffic to the park increases in mid-February and that's a likely starting date.
