De Beque pot vote passes by 4 in unofficial tally

Associated Press Updated: April 2, 2014 at 10:32 am

DENVER (AP) — De Beque may become the first municipality in Mesa County to accept retail pot shops sometime in the future.

In unofficial results, the measure passed Tuesday by only four votes. Fruita voters decided Tuesday to not allow the recreational sale of marijuana within city limits.

Those communities were among 12 Colorado cities and towns voting Tuesday on marijuana issues in municipal elections.

Voters were asked whether to allow recreational marijuana shops within their borders and whether to tax the drug.

Voters in Palmer Lake, north of Colorado Springs, voted to ban pot sales in city limits. Manitou Springs remains the only town in El Paso County that has voted to allow recreational marijuana shops.
