A 57-year-old woman accused of murdering her mother Saturday was found standing on the side of North Curtis Road with blood stains on her feet and wearing only a long-sleeve T-shirt, also with blood on it, according to an arrest affidavit in the case.

Rae Lena Stanley allegedly told a sheriff's deputy who saw her waving from the road at around 12:50 p.m. that her mother was dead. She would not give her name and told the deputy she wanted a ride to town, according to the affidavit.

According to court documents, AMR arrived and took Stanley to Memorial Central Hospital for a medical evaluation while officials with the El Paso County sheriff's office prepared to enter a home on the 1400 block of North Curtis Road. Inside, officials found a deceased 77-year-old woman who had been bound, stabbed and beaten,

The affidavit described the scene in stark detail: The woman, later identified as Charlas Stanley, was lying on the floor. She had blood on her face, her arms and legs were bound with an unknown cloth or ribbon, towels were around her arms and a red cloth was around her neck. Her body had visible cuts and marks of blunt force trauma. On a couch nearby, deputies found several knives.

A detective and AMR staff reported that Rae Lena Stanley told them she had killed her mother, that she had no choice and that she was abused by her mother, according to the affidavit.

Investigators contacted Bryce Stanley, 59, at his home in Colorado Springs and asked when he had last spoken with his sister and his mother. He told deputies that his sister had been hospitalized for mental disorders at the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo, at Cedar Springs in Colorado Springs and at another facility off Woodmen Road. He added that she had not been taking her medication for her illness and had violent outbursts, prompting her mother to decide she couldn't live at her home the night before the killing.

Bryce Stanley was supposed to drop by Saturday and pick up his sister, but he had not heard from her or their mother all morning, according to the affidavit.

During a Mirandized interview with Rae Lena Stanley, she allegedly told a sheriff's detective that she had killed her mother, adding that "it took her whole family to do it and it took about three days," according to he affidavit.

Stanley was held at the El Paso County jail Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder without bond, court records show. She is scheduled for her first court hearing on Jan. 7, court records show.
