HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College has been awarded a grant to digitize its entire collection of Native American art.
The $150,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services will be used to photograph more than 3,500 objects. The images and information about them will then be posted on an online forum featuring a searchable database.
Officials hope online visitors, particularly those with Native American backgrounds, will share information, stories, images and videos and enter into discussions about items in the collection.
The goal is to combine that kind of feedback with scholarly information to expand the museum's knowledge about the objects and make them available to a broad audience.
