DA: Aurora police officers justified in shooting

The Associated Press Published: April 5, 2014

AURORA — Prosecutors say police were justified when they shot a gun-wielding man during a standoff at an Aurora home.

The Aurora Sentinel reports Adams County District Attorney Dave Young has determined the four officers involved acted appropriately when they shot 48-year-old Stephen Harrold Adams on Dec. 15. The officers fired 33 or 34 shots at Adams, but only a single bullet fragment struck him in the leg.

The standoff started at about 5 a.m. when Adams' girlfriend called police and said he had a shotgun and was trying to break into her home. He was shot about 45 minutes later when he pointed the gun at the officers.

Adams is being held on several felony charges, including assault on a police officer and menacing.
