A Pueblo native has been named director of prisons for the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Travis Trani, 44, began his career in 1994 as a correctional officer at the Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility in Cañon City, according to a Tuesday news release from the Department of Corrections.

The CSU-Pueblo graduate has worked at 13 centers and facilities, including the Colorado Women's Correctional Facility, the Fremont Correctional Facility, the Limon Correctional Facility, the Centennial Correctional Facility and the Colorado State Penitentiary.

In 2008, at the age of 35, Trani became the youngest prison warden in Colorado's history, according to the release.

Since August, he has been the deputy director of prisons. In October, he became the interim director. He was appointed to his new position by Rick Raemisch, executive director of the department of corrections.
