Colorado Springs police have identified the victim of a fatal car wreck Wednesday as 25-year-old Nicholas Garcia.

Police say Garcia died Wednesday night after being ejected from a vehicle traveling southbound Interstate 25 that struck a guardrail between the Bijou and Cimarron street exits.

One of the tires from the vehicle broke away and caused a separate minor crash as they were investigating the original wreck, which was reported about 8:30 p.m.

The crash happened near a curve on I-25 that on Tuesday was the scene of a multi-vehicle wreck that closed the highway for several hours.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials told The Gazette on Tuesday that a $95 million interchange project is critical for the safety of motorists on I-25, even if the project won't be completed until the end of 2017.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials say that's exactly the reason a $95 million interchange project is critical for the safety of motorists on I-25, even if the project won't be completed until the end of 2017.
