A 35-year-old man who allegedly threw free weights at the mother of his child while she held their 4-month-old baby early Friday was angry the baby had woken him, Colorado Springs police said.

The weights narrowly the missed the woman and the baby, according to police.

Michael Vasquez was arrested at a family member's house after the 12:30 a.m. disturbance, in which police said he also allegedly punched holes in the wall, broke items in the apartment in the 3600 block of Uintah Street and choked the woman, police said.

Police said the woman escaped and got help from neighbors.
