Race holding poster contest
Want to hobnob with the insiders at the USA Pro Challenge? Get your creative juices flowing.
Organizers of the cycling race are inviting fans to create a national event poster that will be sold both online and at sales booths at major stops along the race route, including Colorado Springs. The contest winner will receive four tickets to the VIP hospitality tent in the city of his or her choice. The seven-day stage race runs Aug. 18-24.
Entries will be accepted on the USA Pro Challenge Facebook page until April 18. Fans then can vote on their favorite poster through May 2, and winners will be announced May 5. For more details, including poster specs, visit facebook.com/USAPro CyclingChallenge.
Planners of the Colorado Springs stage previously announced they will offer two free tickets to the local VIP tent to artists who design a race poster capturing "the unique landscape of Colorado Springs." Those entries likewise are due April 18 and should be submitted to facebook.com/USAProChallengeColoradoSprings.

Glenwood Canyon bike path opens
Transportation officials have opened the Glenwood Canyon bike path for the season. The Colorado Department of Transportation closes the popular trail each winter because maintenance along nearby Interstate 70 can cause unsafe conditions. Officials say they could close the path near Glenwood Springs again if late-season snow moves through the area or if spring runoff poses a danger.
