The El Paso County Coroner's Office has identified two men killed in separate shootings Sunday night in Colorado Springs.

Benjamin Lee Sharkey, 30, of Colorado Springs, was shot about 7:20 p.m. in the 100 block of West Motor Way, police said. Firefighters arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

About a half-hour later, Shawnee Tapia, 35, of Colorado Springs, was shot in a parking lot near Astro Liquors at 3895 Astrozon Blvd., police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Kyung Kim, the liquor store owner, said he was in the middle of a transaction when he heard two gunshots and saw a man clutching his chest and fall to the ground outside of his store.

Kim said a bullet also hit a store window during the incident.

Colorado Springs police released photos Tuesday, January 9, 2018, of a person of interest in the shooting on Astrozon Boulevard on Sunday night.

Police released photos and a video of a person of interest in the Astrozon Boulevard shooting. Police are asking for help locating the man, but told the public not to approach him.

The two shootings do not appear to be related, said police Lt. Howard Black.

The deaths are being investigated as the city's first and second homicides this year, respectively.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 444-7000. To remain anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 634-7867.
