DENVER — A Routt County woman charged with fatally shooting her 9-year-old son before trying to kill herself has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Lisa Lesyshen (leh-SY'-shen) entered her plea Thursday in Denver. She's being held there because the self-inflicted shooting left her partially paralyzed and the Routt County jail cannot accommodate her.
Lesyshen is charged with first-degree murder, fatal child abuse and domestic violence. Prosecutors say she shot her son, Asher Lesyshen-Kirlan, before shooting herself in the neck in a suicide attempt at their home south of Steamboat Springs in May 2013.
Prosecutors aren't seeking the death penalty.
The judge has ordered Lesyshen to undergo a sanity evaluation by the state hospital. The report on the evaluation is due May 21.
