LONGMONT — A 31-year-old woman has drowned after jumping into a Boulder County irrigation ditch to rescue a dog.

KUSA reports that the woman died Tuesday (http://on9news.tv/1llEa5g). Witnesses say she went after a pooch that fell into the fast-moving water. Friends of the woman pulled her from the water and performed CPR, but she could not revived.

The victim was not immediately identified. The dog was rescued and is doing fine.
