Colorado Springs woman escapes alleged kidnapping attempt at motel

A Colorado Springs woman told police she escaped being held against her will in a motel room Tuesday when her alleged kidnapper fell asleep.

The woman told police she was taken at gunpoint from her home on the 1900 block of East Boulder Drive by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Alberto Mendez-Morales, and another man about 7 p.m., police said.

The two men then allegedly drove her to the Sun Springs Motel on South Nevada Avenue in her own vehicle, which she had reported stolen Monday.

The woman was allegedly forced to stay in the motel room with her ex-boyfriend for several hours and told police she snuck out of the room when he dozed off, then called 911. Police arrested 23-year-old Mendez-Morales at the motel.

The second man was not located and police said the investigation is ongoing.
