A Colorado Springs woman was arrested and her newborn baby taken away by court order after police said she was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Gabrielle Nelcine Delaney, 25, was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of criminal trespass and criminal fraud, both outstanding felony warrants, and held on a $3,000 bond, records show.

According to police, Delaney gave birth at St. Francis Hospital on East Woodmen Road Monday and allegedly left with her newborn child around 2 p.m. as hospital staffers were in the process of obtaining a protective custody order with the Department of Human Services.

Officers responded to the hospital and located Delaney and the baby shortly after and determined she had not violated any protection order because custody had not yet been granted by the court, police said.

Delaney was arrested and the child was placed in the custody of DHS by a court order.
