Colorado Springs Utilities has hired a new water services officer, CEO Jerry Forte announced Friday.

Earl Wilkinson is expected to start on Feb. 26, says a news release from Utilities. Wilkinson is currently the director of public works for the city of Pueblo, a position he's held since 2009.

He will replace Dan Higgins who retired earlier this year.

Earlier in his career, Wilkinson worked as a senior professional engineer and administrator in Toledo, Ohio, the release says. He has more than 26 years experience working for municipal governments.

Wilkinson has a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, the release says.
