A therapist at Peak View Behavioral Health was arrested Tuesday after allegedly having sex twice with a 43-year-old woman receiving outpatient therapy, police said.

Darrell L. Wainright, 50, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a client by a psychotherapist, a Class 4 felony, Colorado Springs police said.

The woman had been receiving the therapy in group sessions since February, police said. She told investigators that her male counselor had made sexual comments about her body after the therapy sessions.

The sexual comments escalated to sex after the woman, another woman in the therapy group and the therapists went out for drinks in March. Several days later, she had sex with the therapist again, she told police. Police said the second encounter also involved another female from the therapy group.

She reported the incidents to police at the end of April, police said.

During an interview with investigators Tuesday, the therapist confessed to having sex with the woman, according to police.

Police said Wainright had been issued a professional counselor candidate license by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies in July of last year.

Wainright was booked into the El Paso County jail, where he remained Tuesday evening.
