A Colorado Springs woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police said a gun went off and a teenager was shot in the leg.

Lynelle Elaine Fredeen, 30, was arrested on suspicion of illegal discharge of a firearm, a felony, and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

According to police, the weapon was fired under unknown circumstances at a residence on the 3600 block of Meadowland Boulevard, off Austin Bluffs Parkway, about 5:40 p.m.

Fredeen was in the basement with a handgun when a bullet went through the floor of the main level of the house and struck a 16-year-old boy in the calf, causing non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Fredeen will be advised of the charges at the county courthouse Thursday, records show.
