A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of firing off a weapon and taking Colorado Springs police on a short pursuit near downtown early Sunday morning, police said.

Residents in the Hillside neighborhood reported hearing multiple gunshots around 3:30 a.m., but police did not find the source of the shots or any evidence of them, police said. An officer heard two more gunshots at 4 a.m., then saw a vehicle speeding toward Prospect Street and Vermijo Avenue.

The car was stopped and police detained its occupants, recovering a small caliber handgun. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000.
