The Colorado Springs Switchbacks added more depth to their midfield with the signing of practice-squad player Yaw Danso on Friday.
The native of Duayaw Nkwanta, Ghana played with Switchbacks center full back Christian Ibeagha when both competed for the Puerto Rico Islanders of the North American Soccer League.
The 27-year-old has been practicing with the United Soccer League franchise Switchbacks for much of this season to recover from knee surgery.
“He’s a good two-way player that adds some depth for us down the stretch,” Colorado Springs Steve Trittschuh said. “He’s been training with us for a while so we know what he can do for us.”
The former All-American for Principia College (Ill.) played in 11 matches for the Islanders. He played for the third-place Switchbacks (12-8-7) during the international friendly against Germany’s Mainz 05 under a tryout agreement.
Danso, who moved to the U.S. in 2005 for high school, is traveling with the team to Vancouver for their 3 p.m. Sunday road game against the fourth-place Whitecaps 2 (11-7-9).
