The El Paso County Coroner has identified the men killed in two shootings Saturday, and a suspect in one of the cases turned himself in.

The shooting deaths happened less than three miles from each other but about 22 hours apart, and police do not think they're connected.

The man found dead at the Pine Creek Village Apartments in the early hours of Saturday morning, was Christopher Jackson, 26, of Colorado Springs. The coroner ruled that Jackson's death was a homicide and that he died from a gunshot wound.

On Wednesday, 19-year-old Dominic Jamal Daniels was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in Jackson's killing, said police Lt. Catherine Buckley.

Daniels turned himself in about noon Wednesday. That shooting also left a 15-year-old girl with a non life-threatening gunshot wound, and police said she has recovered.

The victim in the second shooting was identified as Leroy Leonard Chavez, 51, and his death also was ruled a homicide.

Chavez was gunned down at a home on the 700 block of Winnepeg Drive. The shooting left two other men in critical condition, Buckley said, though updates on their conditions have not been released.

Police have not made any arrests in Chavez's killing nor have they named any suspects.

The slayings of Jackson and Chavez' are the seventh and eighth homicides in Colorado Springs this year. As of March 13, 2013, the city's homicide tally also stood at eight.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867).
