This holiday season, adopt an older cat or dog for free from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

Through Dec. 31, adoption fees will be waived for all cats and dogs aged 5 and older.

During the two-week promotion last year, the Colorado Springs shelter had 193 cats and 185 dogs adopted, a news release says.

One senior dog, Severus, arrived at the shelter lasat year as a transfer from a hoarding-neglect case involving hundreds of dogs, his body covered in scabs from old wounds. He was treated at the shelter and found a new home for free.

"This handsome boy hasn't had the best of luck so far, but it looks like his luck just changed," the Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post about the dog.

The promotion, Bring Them Home for the Holidays, is being conducted courtesy of Mike Packer and Cindy Jensen of Status Symbol Auto Body and Bill and Debbie Colgrove of Dent-Tec.

The offer is only good at the Humane Society's Colorado Springs location, 610 Abbot Lane. For more information, visit hsppr.org.
