Colorado Springs School freshman Jules Thompson battled into three sets against Steamboat Springs sophomore Mae Thorp for a position in the 3A No. 1 singles state championship, but after a solid first set, Thompson faded out in the final two, losing the semifinal match 6-1, 6-0 in sets two and three.

Thompson went on to win a three-set playback match against Colorado Springs Christian’s Tristen VanDeVeer, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, but fell in the final of the playback bracket to Denver North’s Mia Oliver.

After a round-one loss, VanDeVeer won her first playback match 7-5, 7-5 over Erin Mauro of Pueblo County.

At No. 3 singles, Vanguard’s Tracey Davis battled into the playback semifinals. Davis claimed a round-one victory on Thursday, but fell to Colorado Academy’s Amanda Funk in the quarterfinals. She went on to beat Heather Marion of University 6-4, 6-3 in a playback match before falling to An Tran of Holy Family.

Vanguard No. 1 doubles team of Erin Dornan and Mia Jackson also claimed a playback victory after a quarterfinal loss. Dornan and Jackson won 6-3, 6-4 over Sawer Ross and Cheyenne McLelland of Glenwood Springs. They lost in the playback semifinals to the No. 1 doubles team from D’Evelyn.
After Day 2 all Pikes Peak region qualifiers have finished their run in the 3A tournament. Colorado Springs School finished with 11 points, followed by Vanguard with five.
