COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Just before Sunday morning's Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon, the announcement was made that the water in which the race would start was cool enough to allow competitors to wear wet suits.

It didn't matter to Jeremiah Mitchell of Colorado Springs, who blistered the quarter-mile swim, 12-mile bicycle ride and 3.1-mile run with a time of 53 minutes, 25 seconds, a course record, according to Florida Today. The former mark, 54:51, was set by Ed Donner of Melbourne in 2012.

Neither Donner nor last year's winner, fellow Brevardian B.J. Graham, participated this year because of other commitments.

Carson Miller of Longwood was second among men at 55:43.
