A 15-year-old boy was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole a vehicle and led officers on car and foot chases through parts of Colorado Springs, police said.
The ordeal started when someone reported a car theft just before 8 a.m. in the area of Derby and Laurel Wreath drives near Meadowlark Park, police said. Officers later spotted the stolen vehicle driving through several locations in southeast and southwest Colorado Springs.
The boy led officers on two short car chases and escaped each time because of high speed or "dangerous driving behavior," police said in a written report.
"Officers then set up surveillance in an area where stolen vehicles are known to be left," police said, declining to release the address. "The stolen vehicle soon arrived with the suspect parking and locking the vehicle."
The suspected car thief, whose name was not released because he's a juvenile, got out of the car and led officers on a foot chase for several minutes, said Sgt. Adam Romine of the department's Sand Creek subdivision. The boy was arrested without further incident, police said.
Police also found another stolen vehicle in the area possibly connected to the boy, Romine said.
