Colorado Springs police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into a van last week, first by offering her a ride to school and then asking her if she wanted to see puppies in the back of the van.
The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. April 26 at the school bus stop at the intersection of Orchard Park Trail and Pine Manor Drive, police said.
The girl told police she arrived unusually early to the bus stop and was the only person there when a white van pulled up.
A man got out of the van through the back door and asked the girl if she needed a ride to school. When she said no, the man 'continued to advance toward her, this time asking if she would like to see the puppies in the back of the van, ' police said.
The girl said no again and ran until she met up with a friend from school. The pair walked slowly back to the bus stop and saw the van speed away.
The victim and her friend reported the incident to an adult the following day.
The victim described the van as full size with chipped paint. The van didn't have side windows but two windowed doors on the back, police said. The right rear window had a decal described as a 'large anchor ' or 'medieval spear, ' police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Colorado Springs police at 444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-7867.
