A man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in an apartment in southeastern Colorado Springs, police said.
The deadly shooting happened about 5:15 p.m. at 231 University Drive, a few blocks west of the intersection of Airport Road and South Academy Boulevard, police said.
"Officers arrived on the scene and located a male victim who had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound," police said in a news release.
"Sadly, the victim died from the injuries he sustained," police said.
Police withheld the victim's name pending notification of family.
After the shooting, officers flooded the neighborhood.
"We have one person shot," an officer said. "We're looking for suspects."
In a 7 p.m. news release, police didn't announce an arrest, but indicated they know who pulled the trigger.
"The police department believes that this is an isolated incident and that there is no continuing danger to the community," the news release said.
If the coroner's office rules the death a homicide, it will be the 19th of 2013.
Ryan Knight, owner of Knight Security, said his company handles security for two apartment complexes on either side of the building where the shooting happened.
Knight said doing security on University Drive "is very nerve-racking."
"There's a lot of gang activity," he said. "We've had to paint over all walls of both laundry rooms with gang symbols and things of that nature multiple times."
Knight, who carries a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun on the job, said all his security officers carry a weapon and wear bullet-proof vests for their safety.
"I've had weapons pulled on me. I've been threatened. We've been shot at," Knight said.
