A police officer on patrol witnessed a reported robbery at a convenience store in west Colorado Springs Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.

Andrew Garcia, 21, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

A patrolling officer was nearby the 7-Eleven store on 221 S. 8th St., off West Cimarron Street, about 10:15 p.m. when a robbery alarm report was received from the store, police said.

The officer allegedly saw a man at the counter and tried to stop him when he was leaving the store, but he took off running, according to police reports.

The alleged robber got into a car and responding police soon intercepted the vehicle, detaining three occupants. The man seen in the store, identified as Garcia, tried to run but was arrested shortly after, police said.

According to police, the role of the other three people detained in the car remained under investigation.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000.
