With a very heavy heart, I inform you of some tragic news. Please read the entirety of this email.
Yesterday, October 2, one of our preschool students died. Bella Ritch was a student in our three-year-old classroom, beautiful, delightful, and full of joy. The loss to our community is immense. Bella’s death did not occur at school.
When a student dies, the entire community grieves. Though we know Bella is in the community of saints, we grieve and we offer support to the family and one another.
Tomorrow morning, Wednesday, at 8:00am, students will attend a prayer service in our church. The service will consist of readings, intercessions, songs, and a rosary, approximately 30 minutes. All are welcome to join. If you feel you need to keep your child from the prayer service of course that is fine. As a loss in the community affects students differently, know we do have a counselor available at school and that our classes may spend some moments processing the loss as a class; I have reached out to a local professional crisis team which may be able to assist with class discussions.
I will be emailing this afternoon an attachment containing information from from varied sources on how to speak to your child when a classmate passes; I encourage you to review other resources as well and have conversations with your children as you feel appropriate.
The regularly scheduled school Mass on Friday morning is being offered in Bella’s name. When we are informed of services for Bella, I will be canceling school on the service date to allow our faculty to attend. No information on details of the death will be given by any school personnel, please be respectful of this and not inquire or post to any social media.
May Bella’s soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in peace.
In service -- John Kraus
