A man from Georgia was taken into custody Sunday afternoon, hours after the fatal stabbing of another man in a Colorado Springs parking lot, according to a statement released by police.

Michael Jonathan Ray, 32, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

The victim was identified as 31-year-old Patrick Hampton, of Tennessee, police said.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office will complete Hampton's autopsy Monday, at which time the cause and manner of death will be determined, police said.

Police found Hampton, who appeared to have suffered several stab wounds, about 4 a.m. at a parking lot on the 1000 block of Kelly Johnson Boulevard, off North Academy Boulevard, according to police reports.

Hampton was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

No other suspects were being sought, police said.

Anyone with information can call 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-7867.
